Start New Dreadlocks

What to expect?
If you are new to dreadlocks, please read through Things To Consider Before Getting Dreadlocks
How does it work?

I use the Seienstyle technique; only a comb, a nylon string (optional), a crochet hook, and a whole lot of love. This technique creates even smooth, faster maturing dreadlocks on all types of hair. It is non-damaging to your hair and gives long-lasting locks. If you follow the recommendations, the technique won't damage or break your hair or stress your scalp in any way. It allows you the option to comb them out, should you not want dreadlocks anymore.

How long hair do I need?

Your hair needs to be at least 10 cm / 4 inches long.

How long does it take to start your dreadlocks?

Between 6 - 12 hours (1-2 sessions), depending on how thick and long hair you have and what style of dreadlocks you want.

How do you take care of your new dreadlocks?

Three* things!

  1. After the initial 7-10 days, you'll need to wash them every 7-10 days (+/- 4 days). It's important to use an appropriate dreadlock shampoo. Dollylocks dreadlock shampoo is recommended. Moisturize appropriately to ensure strong long-lasting locs.

  2. Separate your locks daily! Always make sure they are not getting stuck to each other at your roots. Run your fingers through your hair.

  3. If you want smooth even dreads, palm roll your dreadlocks after wash, to help the maturing process.

How often do I need maintenance?

Depends on personal preference and budget. Between 2 - 6 times a year. I recommend a bit more frequent in the beginning to make sure they stay on track. Find more information on Dreadlock Maintenance Here
